The interaction of the solar wind with Mars’ upper atmosphere is both complex and highly dynamic. Most quantities cannot be detected remotely and thus require in situ observations. Thus, coordinated multipoint plasma observations are required in order to characterize both temporal variability and the real-time response of Mars’ near-space environment to space weather.
